To my baby boy on my first Mother’s Day:

Waking up on May 12, 2019, to your smiling face at 6:22 am, is the greatest start to any day but today, today it was even more important because today we celebrate the fact that you chose me to be your mama. You chose me because you trusted that I would love, guide, and help you to navigate this thing called life and if someone would have told me three years ago that I would celebrate my first Mother’s Day when I was 26 years old and that I would have the sweetest baby boy, I wouldn’t have believed them. Back then, I wasn’t in a place where I saw myself having children within the next few years, let alone a sweet mama’s boy.

September 1, 2018, The day you were born was the day that I was reborn; Reborn into a wife and a mother. I woke up to my water leaking but I had no idea that’s what it was or that you would be laying on my chest in the next eight hours. The moment you laid your sweet head on me and looked into my eyes, all was right in the world. Everything in my life felt complete.

You and I connected immediately and you were a mamas boy from the start. Everything was so easy between us, you latched and breastfed like a natural, you were comforted in my arms, and my chest was your favorite place to nestle in and close your eyes to rest for the night.

Here we are eight months into our adventure and I wouldn’t change a thing. Watching you grow from a newborn to this little baby before my eyes bring a smile to my face every day. You are the most even-tempered baby and you love to laugh. You are also very impatient (like me) and you do all things on your terms. The way your eyes light up, the big smile on your face and hearing you yell “ mom”, “mama”, “mom”  when I walk in the door makes all the bad days worth it. It’s the best reminder that everything mommy and daddy do is for you, to ensure you have the best life.

 Today, daddy made us breakfast, we shared a waffle and then we watched Puppy Dog Pals, one of your favorite shows( remind us to show you the video of you dancing to the theme song) while we played together on the floor. After you and daddy fell asleep listening to ocean waves( our way to relax you to sleep my little aqua man) we had a mini photo shoot to capture the celebration of you allowing me to be your mommy. We went to the park and daddy played photographer while we played and posed for the photos. Daddy pushed you In the swing and you had the best belly laughs. You don’t have any fear and you love to try new things. After the park, we had lunch at one of mommy’s favorite restaurants and daddy’s favorite golf course, Centennial. Watching you people watch, enjoy your food, and love being in the outdoors reminded me to live in the moment. You are only going to be this little once and we are only going to have one first Mother’s Day together.

Tonight you are snuggled up on my chest and your eyes are getting heavy as you listen to the ocean waves and drift off to sleep. I hold you tightly and soak up these moments because I know, one day you will be too big to lay on mommy’s chest and fall asleep. So, for today and the rest of the days you allow, I will snuggle you close and make you feel protected and loved when you go to bed. Thank you for choosing me.
