Purpose Of the trip:
Sawyer loves animals and my in laws REALLY wanted to take Sawyer to the zoo. The closest zoo to where we live, is the Oregon Zoo in Portland. Also, we all wanted to get out of town and Portland is one of our favorite getaways.
Where did we stay?
Downtown Portland is full of hotels and this time, we were lucky enough to have a Loft Suite at the Dossier Hotel. When you first walk in the hotel you are greeted by the front desk staff. The lobby has two huge leather chairs and gave me the feel of an old school man cave. You know, the kind where the men smoked cigars, drank whiskey, and told stories? I was expecting our room to be a similar feel but I was pleasantly surprised.
The Loft Suite was located on the 9th floor, on the left corner. The suite had a king size bed and a living room area. There was so much room for Sawyer to crawl around and play but his favorite part of the room was the window. It was an almost floor to ceiling window and he loved that he could stand and see out it. What did we do?
Jason found this great sandwich shop on Yelp called Break Bread Sandwich Shop located on Hoyt Street. They had so many things to choose from it was hard to decide (plus I was starving from the drive). I finally settled on the “Jimmy Pesto” on a French roll. The Jimmy Pesto is Roasted Turkey, provolone cheese, charred bell pepper, pesto sauce, tomato, pesto aioli. Now, I’m pretty plain when it comes to my sandwiches so I only had the roasted turkey, provolone, pesto, and pesto aioli on my sandwich.
Jason got the “#1” on a Dutch crunch roll. It had turkey, avocado, jack cheese, grilled onion, butter lettuce, tomato, and bread sauce (their special sauce). Seriously, just look at how delicious is sandwich looks! (I ate mine so fast, I forgot to take a pic)
We ate at a few other places over the weekend but Break Bread stuck out to me the most. I can’t wait to go back next time we’re in Portland! We did some shopping downtown and in Pioneer place before we headed back to the Dossier for the night.
The next morning we woke up and had breakfast at Jake’s Grill located on SW 10th ave inside the Sentinel Hotel. After breakfast we headed off to the Oregon Zoo! We arrived at the zoo around 10:20am, right after they opened and the parking lots were full and there was
We made our way down the path of animals and came up to the petting zoo, we waited in line to pet some of the goats. Once again, Sawyer loved the animals. He was able to pet them and the one goat just laid in the feeder eating his food while Sawyer squealed away.
The elephants were our favorite. They are such big majestic creatures. Two of the five were out in the enclosure, we watched them eat and calmly walk around. After that Sawyer fell asleep and we decided it was time to start heading out. We spent about three hours at the zoo start to finish, seeing most of the animals. We weren’t able to see most of the animals in the African exhibit because they are rebuilding a lot of enclosures and the way around the zoo due to the construction was confusing; but that’s okay, we saw what we wanted to see and we enjoyed every minute! Most of all, Sawyer enjoyed it.
