Holiday Gifts with the Cricut maker

The holidays are quickly approaching and this year I wanted to do something special for gifts. I chose to make my aunt customized make up bags for her nail business. Here is a quick “How to” in case you want to get crafty as well.

I used the Cricut Maker to create the makeup bags. The maker was intimidating at first but the more I play with it, the more comfortable I am and the more I love the machine.

Step One: Create the design you want to make in Cricut Design Space. You can customize the fonts, size of the design, and many more things in Design Space.

step 1
This is the design I created based off of the logo my aunt has for her business.

Step Two: Cut the vinyl. I had to do this in two steps because I used two different colors of vinyl. Design Space automatically sorted what color to cut for which design based on the colors I had set in Design Space.

This is the vinyl on the mat being cut by the Maker.

Remember: When you are going to apply HTV you will want to make sure you click the “mirror” option before cutting the design.

Here you can see the two colors separated on different mats in design space. showing you what color vinyl to use at which time, this is also where you would hit the mirror option.

Step Three: Cut down and Weed the Vinyl. Weeding the vinyl means removing all the extra vinyl around the design that you cut. I like to place the vinyl on my Bright Pad to make sure I’m getting all the tiny pieces that are hard to see.

This is what the vinyl looked like once I cut it down and the design was cut by the Maker. I use the Brightpad to help weed the vinyl so I don’t miss any pieces that need to come off.

Step Four: Once the vinyl is weeded and you only have the design left, find the placement of where you want it to be on the fabric. I laid the palm trees down first and used the Easy Press for the heat transfer.

This is what the vinyl looked after I weeded it.

Step Five: Once the palm trees were on the fabric, I used the Easy Press to apply the text, dragon fly, and the turtle. The text overlapped the palm trees so I had to be careful to not burn the vinyl that I used for the palm trees.

Step Six: My design was complete!
